形态特征（Description）：一年生直立草本；茎高60-200厘米，粗5-20毫米，基部常木质化，常3或4棱形，多分枝，幼枝及花序被微柔毛。叶披针形至线形，长2-10厘米，宽0.5-1.5厘米，先端渐狭或锐尖，基部狭楔形，侧脉每侧9-16，在近边缘不明显环结，下面脉上疏被短毛；叶柄长2-10毫米；托叶三角形，长约1毫米，或不存在。花腋生，萼片4，卵状披针形，长2-4毫米，宽0.5-1.8毫米，常有3纵脉，无毛或被短柔毛；花瓣4，黄色，倒卵形或近椭圆形，长2-3毫米，宽1-2毫米，先端钝圆，基部楔形；雄蕊8，淡绿黄色，花丝不等长，对萼的长1-2毫米，对瓣生的长0.5-1毫米；花盘稍隆起，围绕雄蕊基部有密腺；花柱淡黄绿色，长0.8-1.2毫米；柱头头状，径约1毫米，顶端略凹，浅4裂，上部接受花粉。蒴果近无梗，幼时近四棱形，熟时近圆柱状，长1-2.5厘米，径1.5-2毫米，上部1/5-1/3增粗，被微柔毛，果皮薄。种子在蒴果上部每室排成多列，游离生，在下部排成1列，牢固地嵌入在一个近锥状盒子的硬内果皮里，近椭圆状，长约0.6毫米，径约0.3毫米，两端多少锐尖，淡褐色，表面有纵横条纹，腹面有纵形种脊，长约为种子的1/3。花果期几乎四季。染色体数n＝8。
分布（Distribution）：产台湾、广东、香港、海南、广西、云南南部，生于海拔50-750米田边、水沟、河滩、塘边、湿草地等湿润向阳处。东南亚至澳大利亚，西达非洲热带地区也有。
用途（Use）：全草入药，能清热解毒、去腐生肌之效，可治感冒、咽喉肿痛、疮疥等。

Sepals 4, lanceolate, 2-4 mm, finely puberulous. Petals yellow, fading to orange-yellow, elliptic, 2-3 × 1-2 mm. Stamens 2 × as many as sepals; anthers 0.4-0.6 mm; pollen in monads. Style 1-1.5 mm; stigma depressed-globose. Capsule cylindric, subterete, enlarged in upper 1/6-1/3, 1.5-3 cm, finely puberulous, relatively thinly walled; subsessile. Seeds in inflated upper capsule in 2 or more rows per locule, free, pale brown, ovoid, 0.3-0.5 mm, raphe narrow; seeds in lower capsule in one row per locule, embedded in cube of relatively hard endocarp, brown, 0.7-0.9 mm, raphe ca. 1/3 width of seed. Fl. and fr. Jun-Feb. 2n = 16*.
