形态特征（Description）：草本，从纤细须根上升。茎单生，通常高约50厘米，有时高达1.5米，钝四棱形，具槽，被倒向平伏毛，常曲折，向基部无叶，上部具叶。叶卵圆状披针形直至狭长披针形，具极不显著的细圆齿；叶柄纤弱，长达8厘米，扁平，上面略具槽，下面圆形，被平伏毛。轮伞花序多花，轮廓为圆球形，连花冠径约3厘米，其下承以少数小苞片；小苞片钻形，长约6毫米，不超过萼筒，被小硬毛；花梗无。花萼花时明显管状，口部骤然开张，果时膨大，革质，不连齿长约7毫米，幼时密被小硬毛，多少呈绿色，果时毛被近于脱落，常变红色，脉不明显，齿5，近相等，钻形或三角状钻形，长3-4毫米。花冠通常黄或淡黄，亦有近于白色的，长约1.7厘米，外面在冠筒上部及冠檐上均多少被有小硬毛，内面在冠筒的中部稍上方具柔毛毛环，冠檐二唇形，上唇长圆形，全缘，直伸，下唇3裂，中裂片较大。雄蕊4，前对较长，均上升至上唇片之下或略超出，花丝丝状，微被柔毛，花药椭圆形，二室，室略叉开。花柱丝状，略超出雄蕊，先端近相等2浅裂。子房紫黑色，顶端截平，中央稍凹陷，无毛。小坚果倒卵珠状三棱形，顶端钝圆，黑色，无毛。花期6-8月，果期8-12月。
分布（Distribution）：产云南，四川，贵州，广西，广东，福建及湖南；生于亚热带常绿林或混交林林荫下，海拔500-1600米。越南北部也有。
